Friday, September 20, 2019, was the day for our entire MANDALA team "for protesting instead of working". All of us took part in the climate civil protest movement at the Königsplatz in Munich. The aim of the civil protest was to show our solidarity with the students of the "Fridays for Future" movement. As we are a sustainable company, the environment is very important for us and, right from the start, we had been following the development of Greta Thunberg’s “Fridays for Future” movement with great admiration. This is why it was an unforgettable experience for us all to be part of the civil protest movement and to set a clear accent with our presence that not only young students are concerned about our climate.
After having had our brunch nearby, we walked towards the Underground (masses had filled it to the rim) where we joined crowds of other protesters who had gathered at the Königsplatz. The enormous masses of persons impressed us, we saw how both young and old participated together in committed solidarity. After several keynote speeches were held, we all began to walk along the Brienner, Ludwig and Schelling Streets and returned back to the Königsplatz for a joint rally. Originally, a shorter route had been planned, but due to the unexpected high number of participants, the police had further extended the route for the demonstration.
At first, up to about 10,000 participants had been expected, but the actual number had to be corrected upwards several times. Officially, around 40,000 persons participated in the climate civil protest movement in Munich. All over Germany on that day about 1.4 million people had come out on the streets to protest for the climate. In Munich, prominent supporters had attended, namely Florian David Fitz and Joko Winterscheidt, who also gave a speech.
