MANDALA was founded in 2000 by Nathalie Prieger in Munich. Prior to that, in her position as head designer for MCM, Nathalie had become aware of how production costs were being pressed downwards for more profit in sales. She decided not to support this business practice ethically any longer and quit her job. An extended stay in India not only made her realize her love for country and Yoga but also to integrate her two passions into MANDALA.

Yoga was hardly known in Germany at that time; yet in North America, the first Yoga Fashion labels had already been founded, convincing Nathalie to establish her own Yoga Fashion label. Although sustainable sports fashion was still in its infancy, Nathalie held on to her idea, fought against all odds and managed to build up a thriving brand in a matter of years that became well-known to all Yoginis, especially in German-speaking countries. Currently, MANDALA can be found at approx. 180 points of sale worldwide.

2001 - First Collection

After the foundation in 2000, MANDALA distributes its first own yoga collection. This makes us Germany's first yoga fashion label and one of the first to produce active wear sustainably & fairly.

2004 - First resellers in Europe

MANDALA is distributed for the first time throughout Europe. Among others, our collection can be purchased in London, Amsterdam and Scandinavia.

2007 - Our Showrooms

In the meantime, we have not only been able to gain some resellers throughout Europe, but we also present our collection in three showrooms in Munich, Hamburg and Amsterdam. We are represented there until today.

2008 - MANDALA at 100 points of sale throughout Europe

The next big milestone has been reached: MANDALA is represented at 100 POS across Europe. Our customers include not only large department stores, but also yoga studios and luxury hotels.

2009 - Production & Launch Webshop

Our collaboration with the textile factory Jiecco in China and the GOTS-certified factory Demoteks in Turkey begins. Both factories are also OCS certified. We are proud that these partnerships continue to this day and that we are able to offer our customers our collection in consistently high quality.

We also step into unknown territory: our first own online store is launched. From now on, customers can also purchase their yoga clothing directly through MANDALA.

2010 - First Tencel Collection

We discover the sustainable fabric Tencel for our yoga fashion and produce our first collection with Tencel. Over the years Tencel has become one of our most popular fabrics and today it is impossible to imagine our yoga collection without it.

2012 - First Recycled Polyester Collection

Recycled Polyester is the next sustainable innovation to enter our collection. Printed leggings made from recycled PET bottles are still among our bestsellers.

2013 - First resellers outside Europe

We are gaining new customers in the Middle East and Asia, making our sustainable yoga clothing more accessible to yogis on other continents.

2017 - Move to Tutzing

Our head office is relocated from Munich to Tutzing on Lake Starnberg. Meanwhile we count 10 employees in Germany and Turkey.

2019 - Bio-Based Polyamide from castor oil

We discover the new fabric innovation Bio-Polyamide for our yoga wear. We are the first active wear label to produce our yoga collection from Bio-Based Polyamide. The fabric is made from the renewable raw material of the castor plant.

2021 - MANDALA Head Office Germany becomes GOTS certified

The Global Organic Textile Standard, or GOTS for short, is regarded worldwide as the leading standard for the production of textiles from organic fibers. It defines demanding ecological and social criteria along the entire textile chain and compliance with these is regularly monitored. Since our founding, we at MANDALA have exclusively used organic cotton for all our articles with cotton content. The majority of our products have already had the GOTS seal since 2009. In 2021 we reached another milestone in the MANDALA history, because from now on our headquarter in Tutzing is also GOTS certified. With this, we have managed to certify all steps along our production chain.

2022 - Vegan Silk

Our founder Nathalie once again proves her instinct for trends and incorporates vegan silk into our new summer collection with the fabric innovation from Japan. The fabric is produced in a closed loop and therefore has no impact on the environment. Moreover, no animals are harmed in the process.
